In the present paper we analyse chromatic characteristics of the light emission of a set of compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) of various wattage belonging to the same colour category (colour name). The analysis was extended to behaviour of the lamp set according to operating time (ageing). The results show the remarkable inadequacy of the colour name to characterise chromatic properties of CFL when colour is a strong requirement in lighting practice. As much CCT as CRI and CIE chromaticity coordinates x,y all show shifts of different significance, depending on the operating time and lamp wattage.
