Any time a new aircraft is introduced intornservice, or an old aircraft undergoes substantialrnmodifications or needs to be certified to carryrnand employ new stores, the store separationrnengineer is faced with a decision about howrnmuch effort will be required to provide anrnairworthiness certification for the aircraft andrnstores. Generally, there are three approachesrnthat have been used: Wind Tunnel Testing,rnComputational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysesrnand Flight Testing. During the past thirty yearsrnthere have been considerable advances in allrnthree areas. In particular, the US Navy hasrndeveloped a method for combining the threernapproaches in a process called the IntegratedrnTest and Evaluation Approach to Modeling &rnSimulation for Store Separation. This paperrndescribes how this process has evolved over thernpast thirty years.
