Cement-based concrete and high molecular organic coating products are fundamentally different in their physical and chemical character, consequently also in their behaviour under varying ambient conditions. Therefore, it is obvious that adhesion of coatings on concrete surfaces depends on numerous factors, on the one hand related to the inorganic subrate, on the other hand related to the high molecular organic coating. Subject of this paper is the micro-strucure and conditions prevailing inside the concrete subtrate and the process of molecular growth in 2-component coating products during and after their application onto this substrate. Competing reaktions and situations at the very interface of concrete to polymer are responsible for the ultimate degree of adhesion between these two fundamentally different materials.
