The use of IR tunable lasers sources (especially lasers diode) associated to modulation spectroscopy is increasing importance in many environmental monitoring applications. Pyroelectric sensors based on polymer PVDF foils offer the possibility to design detectors for mid IR laser applications requiring a good sensitivity at modulation frequencies >= 100 Hz. We designed and realized a low cost position detector for the alignment of laser diode beams using optical components for IR radiation that do not transmit visible radiation.
