摘要

A research plan is proposed for the Engineering Management programs to enhance their image and program effectiveness in their academic environments. The authors rely on years of experience in industry and university settings as engineering managers, faculty members and administrators in Engineering Management, Mechanical, Industrial / Manufacturing Engineering, and Business School settings in developing such plans. First the meaning of research in academic setting is explored. Then the researcher qualities and characteristics are explained. A fourteen step process is proposed for successful launching of such plans in Engineering Management, followed by a discussion of appropriate research topics and identification of some of the research areas in Engineering Management with possible funding sources. The readers of this paper should benefit from the ideas discussed in planning their research agenda as they face an increasingly more sophisticated academic environment in Engineering Management where applied and basic research will play an important role.
