Project teams, in which a group of people work together during limited time to produce one-time outputs, are used in organizations for achieving more complex tasks, such as new product development. A number of works have examined the factors which influence project team performance and identified their relationships with project team outcomes. However, different results were suggested due to different study purposes, project team types, and team performance measurements. It is therefore necessary to integrate the knowledge across studies to build a general concept of project team performance. This paper summarizes the effect of factors and their relationships with project team performance by conducting a systematic literature review to collect effect sizes from different studies. The purpose was to quantify the relative magnitude of relationships between key factors and project team performance so that project team performance can be better managed. The areas for future research are also described.
