摘要

This research challenges two assertions made recently in critical pedagogy discourse. The first assertion is that the majority of architecture students are upper-class. The second assertion is that conventional definitions of upper, middle, and lower class sufficiently describe the difference between classes. I argue that within the middle class in the United States, students have significantly different financial resources and lived experiences in the design studio. A variety of financial resources available to students provide a wide range of students access to university education. Interview responses of 15 students in a mid-western design studio reveal the heterogeneity among architecture students.
