摘要

Ambulance Officers are involved in the transfer of patients between community settings and health care facilities. The nature of the work necessitates the carrying of any handling aids to the patient, hence many of the aids used in hospitals and aged care facilities are not suitable because of the lack of portability. This study, funded by WorkCover NSW, sought to identify and evaluate suitable handling aids for use by ambulance officers. The evaluation was limited to two critical and high risk activities: movement of patients to the stretcher and lifting patients from the ground. The results of this evaluation may be useful to other organisations involved in the transfer of frail aged, ill or otherwise disabled clients by vehicle.
