The half-zone (HZ) model is simplified from the floating zone crystal growth process, and is widely used to study thermocapillary convection. In the present work, a new evolutional HZ model is proposed. Three-dimensional unsteady thermocapillary convection at high-Pr in this model is investigated. A comparison of the flow pattern after the first instability in between the present and the HZ models is conducted.
