Introduction Growth hormone (GH) and prolactin(PRL) which secreted by the anterior pituitary gland play a key role in the regulation of milk protein and fat synthesis(Akers 2006).Because of the irreplaceable regulatory role in lactation,researches on endocrinology of lactation were always focuses on the factors and mechanism affecting GH and PRL synthesis and release.Cell culture is a convenient tool forunderstandingthe mechanisms of hormone synthesis and secretion.Howeve,existing in vitro approaches are noteffective for the investigation of GH and PRL synthesis and secretion in dairy cow anterior pituitary gland.Thus,a primary objective of this investigation was to isolate and cultureanterior pituitary cells in vitro so that their potential as a model to study the cellular and molecule mechanism for GH and PRL synthesis and secretion.
