摘要

Shipping is an international industry and safety at sea was, always, a common objective among shipping companies. When an accident happens, its consequences are, sometimes, devastating and that is why shipping is one of the most risky industries worldwide in terms of accidents. At this point, it is interesting to know the shipping companies' opinions for the safety, the advantages, and disadvantages of the application of the ISM Code to propose measures to improve safety at sea. We will focus on the companies whose ships have been involved in accidents. For this purpose, a questionnaire has been developed and distributed to these shipping companies in Greece, asking for their attitudes on a series of parameters related to the ISM Code. In this survey, we investigate the evolution of the accidents during a period of five years after the implementation of the ISM Code, the measures taken for their reduction, the type of education provided, and other important issues.
