摘要

Miniaturized, economically-effective and simultaneously highly-flexible production systems are increasingly becoming an interesting solution for automation, especially for small and mid-sized companies. The high degree of flexibility which is obtained using a miniaturized modular construction system with the "plug and produce" principle, will lessen the time required in the future by the user for putting systems into operation or for retrofitting them, and will also enable the user to extend his system rapidly and easily. Furthermore, by miniaturizing process and equipment technology, it will be possihle to obtain marked savings potentials in both operating and investment costs. a wide range of additional fields of application will be conceivable in the future in precision and micro-technology. The areas of implementation may range from the manufacture of mini-encoders or micro-valves to the production of components for minimally-invasive surgery and the manufacture of fiber-optic switches.
