A concept to identify and locate delamination damages in CFRP has been introduced recently. The method correlates damage-caused modal damping variations from a monitored elasto-mechanic structure to the corresponding data from an analytical model in order to derive information on the damage location. The approach allows to locate damage in a three-dimensional structure using data from only a single response sensor. The paper focuses on the question how the method's localization capabilities are affected by the quality of the analytical model.
