The effects of temperature, inert and reactive gas flow-rate and external atmosphere over the self-reducing briquette reduction rates were analyzed, aiming its use as burden in the new ironmaking reactors, such as TECNORED and Rotary Hearth Furnaces (RHF). Conversions were obtained by the determination of the fraction of oxygen removed from the briquettes being the pre-exponential factor and the apparent activation energy calculated using the Arrhenius equation. It is reported that raises in temperature, decreasing N_2 flow-rate and the use of CO atmospheres increase the reaction rate. Finally, the work concludes that the bench scale tests play an important role on the development and improvement of the emergent ironmaking technologies.
