Modeling and simulation capability has been established within the FAA AOP-400 to analyze the traffic in the NAS Data Interchange Network (NADIN) Packet Switched Netowrk (PSN) and to evaluate the availability, reliability, and vulnerability of the Terrestrial Communications Network (TCN) for the Wide Area Area Augmentation System (WAAS). The need for a simualtion capability is a direct result of the increasing complexity of the FAA's communications networks. With today's complex wide-area networks such as the NADIN PSN and WAAS TCN. it is no longer practical to develop engineering assessments or solutions using conventional analytical approaches. In response to this need, models of the NADIN PSN and WAAS TCN have been developed based on an OPNET simulation tool.
