摘要

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is a private, non-profit organization (501(c)3) that administers and coordinates the U.S. voluntary standardization and conformity assessment system. The Institute's mission is to enhance both the global competitiveness of U.S. business and the U.S. quality of life by promoting and facilitating voluntary consensus standards and conformity assessment systems, and safeguarding their integrity. ANSI was Founded October 19, 1918 with Headquarters in Washington, B.C. ANSI itself does not develop American National Standards, it provides all interested U.S. parties with a neutral venue to come together and work towards common agreements. ANSI currently provides a forum for over 200 ANSI-accredited standards developers responsible for more than 10,000 American National Standards (ANS). In order to maintain ANSI accreditation, standards developers are required to consistently adhere to a set of requirements or procedures known as the "ANSI Essential Requirements: Due process requirements for American National Standards" that govern the consensus development process. In essence, ANSI standards quicken the market acceptance of products while making clear how to improve the safety of those products for the protection of consumers.
