摘要

The advent of new crashworthiness requirements such as FMVSS 208 and 214 will create new challenges for next generation military vehicle design teams. The current designs may not account for various geometric as well as stiffness requirements which are needed to meet the FMVSS regulations. The design engineers will have to re-think all the aspects of the vehicle safety and the design of critical components such as vehicle structure, steering columns, interior trim parts, knee-bolsters, airbags and seat belts in order to meet the new requirements while maintaining the rigidity and flexibility required for combat vehicles. This study demonstrated how MADYMO can be effectively used to evaluate ffects of various components on occupant safety. Effect of various types of belt systems (3-point, 4-point, 5-point) as well as use of other occupant restraint systems such as knee bolsters, airbags and stroking columns was demonstrated. A Design of Experiments (DOE) was conducted to optimize a safety system for a generic military vehicle.
