摘要

Indonesia is rich in natural diversity and they are represented into various protected landscape with different types of management. The management is addressed mainly to balance between area protection and utilization. Adequate policies and plans designed to control the utilization, therefore, are highly needed. Considering the duties of landscape architects, it then calls for their professional competencies in constructing the best policies and planning. IdeA-Innovative development for eco Awareness has developed a comprehensive and integrated approach to harmonize the need to conserve landscape and to use its resources. Using ecotourism as a tool to provide benefit for conservation and people, five principles has been offered in this paper to guide landscape managers develop policies and plans for the areas. Two important steps are recommended, i.e. (1) mapping the environment to identify and assess the characteristics of natural and cultural resources, and (2) finding the relationship between the traditional inheritance and the sustainable development for suitable development guidelines.
