One day in the early 1980's, a recent Industrial Engineering graduate applying for a job came into my office and immediately said: "if you are doing stopwatch time studies in this company, I will be walking straight out of here". This gentleman expressed an opinion typical of many Industrial Engineers durint the past 10 - 15 years. Stopwatch time study has lost its popularity among the Industrial Engineers. Also, the Industrial Engineer is almost as disinterested in the manual methods used to measure work and set standards.
