In this paper we describe a modified QFD framework employed to plan process improvement projects in a variety of organizational settings. These include designing Activity Based Costing (ABC) systems in small manufacturing companies, planning the introduction of automated mapping systems in small communities, and planning engineering aboratory enhancements in academia. In these cases, the modified QFD process adopted served as a fiexible and effective planning framework, facilitating the group decision-making required during the transformation process. However, its implementation demands skilful managing of the time-consuming group decision-making process by an experimenced group facilitator or team leader.
