The use of pyrolysis biochar to improve soil performance is gaining popularity, since it decreases nutrient leaching and the loss of organic matter in soils, as well as promoting microbial activity. However, the use of biochar in commercial applications is limited by its inhomogeneous structure and fine particulate form. Pelletization offers a promising way to agglomerate biochar to minimize safety and health hazards commonly found with powder materials. This study evaluated the consolidation behavior of pellets comprised of biochar and Douglas fir slash (stem and leaves). The compression tests were performed at a certain maximum force by direct compression, an external load cell was used to measure the frictional work during compression test,in addition, binary and ternary mixtures were also compared.
