Predicting the response of a complex structural acoustic system across a broad frequency range presents a number of analytical difficulties. It is commonly found that the system has "mixed dynamics" in that some components are modally sparse while others are modally dense, or, in other terms, some components display long wavelength motion while others have short wavelength deformation. This paper considers the application of a hybrid Finite Element - Statistical Energy Analysis, known as Resound, to a frame-panel system. The various mechanisms by which energy flows between the deterministic and statistical parts of the model are discussed, and a comparison is made with experimental results.
