There are some OSP conditions where it's necessary to deploy a very cost effectiveness solution to become economically feasible to link some clusters areas located quit far from existent optical infrastructure. Then, in order to optimize a cable design with best combination of certain characteristics like "low fiber counts", "self-supporting", "small diameter", "totally dielectric", "low weight", "easy and fast installation" and "low cost solution", a loose tube cable has been developed where the usual aramid or fiberglass strength yarns have been eliminated through the use of two FRP (fiber rode pultrusion) helically stranded with the loose tube unit. Extensive characterization testing was undertaken to validate performance against industry standard requirements. In addition, extensive field installation deployment validates the robustness and easy-installation aspects of the new cable design. This paper explains the new design concept of this optical fiber cable, mechanical and environmental performance and result of rtial field test.
