Varying fuel quality due to material composition or preparation changes can and doesrnresult in a high degree of variation in instantaneous energy output of boiler combustionrnsystems. This variability leads to poor response and diminished stability resulting in lossrnof efficiency. These adverse conditions are often found in today’s boilers burningrnBiomass or coal. Biomass presents special concerns due to often limited control overrnfuel BTU content, and moisture content can be greatly affected by fuel blend and/orrnstorage methods.rnThis paper will describe a method of improving boiler stability, response and efficiencyrnvia automatic online calculation of BTU variation and applying a calculated adjustmentrnto the Boiler Master, Fuel and Air.rnA discussion of the challenges, combustion control strategy implementation and benefitsrnfor Biomass and Coal fueled boilers will be presented with programming examples.
