Agricultural waterways provide a buffer zone between crop fields and adjacent rivers or streams.The objective of this experiment was to determinate the effect of cutting date and interval of native grasses for water management efficiency of agricultural waterways.The experimental design was a randomized complete block in a split arrangement with four replications.Main plots consisted of two locations, Pyeontaek (rice paddy field's waterway) and Danjin (reclaimed field's waterway), and subplots consisted of cutting date and cutting interval (single, double and triple).There was a significant location and cutting date effect on dry matter (%DM) content and a significant location effect on DM yield.The %DM and DM yield of native grasses at the Dangjin location was higher than that of Pyeongtaek location.The June cutting showed the highest %DM at Pyeongtaek, however the July cutting was highest at the Dangjin.Significant main effects (location and cutting time) were observed for most measured parameters except DM grass yield.Fresh yield of grasses at Pyeongtaek was higher than Dangjin, and fresh yield of the double cut (June and August cut) was the highest among the cutting interval.The DM yield of grasses was significantly different among the cutting interval treatments.The double cut (June and August cut) and the triple cut were higher than other cutting intervals.In conclusion, these results showed differences in grass production on waterways as a result of location, cutting date and cutting interval.Based on this research, the cutting date of native grasses in Korean waterways should be June or July, and a cutting interval of twice per growing season.
