Atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition is an important component in the global N cycle and affects plant growth and reproduction strategy.In addition, reproduction strategy is one of the important factors in plant life history.Therefore, how variation in atmospheric nitrogen deposition affects the reproduction strategy and seed traits on a population of Chtoris virgata was investigated.We evaluated the allometric relationship between seed size and seed number, as well as the effects of N addition on seed traits.The results indicated that N addition had a significant and negative effect at low and high N supply.Seed number and seed weight behaved similar and were significantly lower when no N addition.The greatest gains in seed yield were higher under N addition.Seed weight reached the maximum values at low and high nitrogen levels, while seed N concentrations increased with N levels.Seed vigour was higher at control.Our findings had important implications for understanding the mechanisms by which N deposition influences plant reproductive strategy and offspring characters.
