Several devices or physical agents have been used for the well being of patients in neurorehabilitation setup. Physical agents improve the quality of life. Miswak-tree twig which is Arabic term of Kayu Sugi in Malay used to cleaning the tooth which has historical and traditional value in different parts of the world. The objective of our present study was to examine the effect of Miswak induced short exercise on excitement level of brain by recording magnetic flux which is related to intracranial electrical current. Spontaneous Magne-toencephalography (MEG) recording was done before and after tooth brushing in four conditions (rest, left hand pinch grip, right hand pinch grip and both hand pinch grip) and neural signal was recorded from eight regions of brain (left and right frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital region). Spectral analysis from 20sec epoch data by Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) was done to obtain mean value of power for alpha (7 - 13 Hz) and beta (13 - 30Hz) frequency bands. The relative power of alpha band was also measured from eight regions of brain. We also recorded visual evoked field (VEF) after and before brushing and measured PlOOm latency and amplitude but no significant changes were found in latency and amplitude. From spontaneous MEG multivariate analysis of variances showed significant reduction of alpha power after Miswak induced brief exercise in left and right frontal region at both hand pinch condition. But no changes were found in the relative alpha power in regions across the conditions. These results suggest that brain excitement level increased after short duration tooth brushing exercise and the measurement of power is reliable rather than relative power in neuro-feedback.
