1. Use of a recording load cell scale on the refractory gun to systematically collect consumption data has been successful. 2. Analysis of that data has yielded valuable insight into shop operational parameters including: 2.1 Precise identification of high consumption periods which can be correlated back to shop records to determine the cause and initiate study. 2.2 Easy comparison of the amount and frequency of gunning by crew. 2.3 Comparison of gunning consumption by campaign, allowing a cost comparison of various lining practices with regard to cost effectiveness.
