Attempts were made to generate biogas from press mud as well as press mud + cattle waste mixed slurry in batch digesters of 2 litres capacity at ambient temperature. There was better biogas producttion and degradation of total solids and volatile solids was more in digesters fed with press mud in comparison to press mud + cattle waste mixed slurry. The use of press mud for energy production by anaerobic digestion and use of the resultant digested press mud as organic fertilizer could be exploited profitably by the sugar industries.
