Indian sugar industry is continuously progressing in respect of quality of plantation white sugar being produced. Before a decade a production of 120 to 150 IU plantation white sugar was remarkable achievement But through continuous efforts and up gradation of technical knowledge, now Maharashtra sugar mills are able to produce 60- 70 IU colour plantation white sugar cosistantly with the efficient follow up of the conventional liming and sulphitation method. Since last decade, Vasantdada Sugar Institute is continuously working on sugar quality improvement. With the help of the expertise gained from this study, we are successfully able to produce plantation white sugar of 40 to 70 IU (Average 60 IU) cosistantly with conventional clarification system only. The case studies of Vighnahar, Kumbhi-Kasart, Mahankali, Bhaurao Chavan & Ghodganga sugar mills are discussed in this article.
