摘要

If used effectively, metadata allows information to be accessible by labeling its contents consistently. It will also lead users to find information they need, all in one place. With that in mind, we have implemented the labeling'/'cataloging' of online resources and learning objects. This paper reports on our commitment in achieving this which includes, the development of Metadata Management System, a tool for creating, harvesting and maintaining metadata records, the development of our own application profile which draws elements from both IEEE Learning Object Metadata (LOM) and Dublin Core and the development of our own search engine to query and retrieve the metadata sets. In bringing the audience direct to the relevant resources, the metadata has been implemented at a pilot project that specifically aims to bridge the digital divide. This is achieved through the structured and systematic information classification and indexing.
