摘要

In a highly information-oriented society of the 21st century, many kinds of information devices will be used in offices, homes and public spaces. On the other hand, it has been reported older persons often experience difficulty and frustration in using the devices with a complex front panel. Therefore, it is very important to investigate the cognitive problem on the design of the front panel and to develop the objective method to evaluate their cognitive usability. In this experiment,subjects tried to use three types of CD/Radio/Cassette Deck(CDRC) with complex many input buttons and we analyzed the eye scans of the subjects while they were operating these apparatuses. In the results,number of fixation points was smaller and their fixation duration was shorter at easy-to-use CDRC,than at difficult-to-use one. Furthermore , older persons required more fixation points and longer fixation durations at all types of CDRC than young ones. These results suggest that the easy-to-use visual interfaces have a properly classified front panel and the analysis of the eye scans is effective to evaluate the cognitive usability in the visual interfaces.
