Polymer microtechnologies have emerged at an industrial scale since the mid nineties. Though they find applications in various industrial fields, this paper will focus on microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip applications.rnWe will present the state-of-the-art in polymer microtechnologies and show their advantages and drawbacks versus silicon and glass for several applications in microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip. We will give examples of the current and future applications of polymer MEMS and discuss their potential market for these applications.rnWe will also highlight the different business models proposed and discuss the interest of technology acquisition and strategic partnerships in order to increase the added value of polymer MEMS components manufacturers.
