摘要

Sphere Medical was set up to exploit commercially a micro-machined silicon sensing technology in the field of blood gas analysis, clinical and molecular diagnostics. Sphere's technology enables an array of separate chemical sensors, such as ISFET (ion selective field effect transistors), amperometric and conductometric devices, to be combined on a single silicon chip. Furthermore, the design offers the potential to integrate electronic drive circuitry on the same chip. This sensor is packaged in a specially designed housing with multiple functionality. The technology will enable a new generation of diagnostic and analytical products that will give real-time measurements at an affordable cost, so reducing therapeutic decision times. In the first instance, Sphere's product aims to address these issues by providing a blood parameter sensor which will be integrated into the arterial pressure monitoring line, as a per-patient disposable. The sensor will be positioned just outside the patient's body in the arterial pressure line and a sampling system will draw blood up over the sensor to take blood parameter readings as required.
