It is well known that under mild assumptions on the objective function, the unit steplength can be always accepted by the quasi-Newton method when the iteration tends to the solution point. There is a similar result with the Barzilai-Borwein gradient method for unconstrained optimization if a nonmonotone line search is incorporated.
