A Generalized Nash Equilibrium Model for a Network of Interlinked Markets

This paper investigates an economic network of interlinked oligopolistic markets with a set of firms supplying a homogeneous product to both domestic and foreign markets in a noncooperative manner. By modeling the flow of the product between markets as a “transmission”, a generalized Nash equilibrium (GNE) model is proposed to characterize the strategic behaviors of the firms under different types of transmission regulations.First, we establish results on the existence and uniqueness of market equilibrium. Second,a sensitivity analysis is developed to show the impact of various transmission regulations on the Nash equilibrium, the price and the average revenue of firms, where the regulations include access barriers and transmission capacities. Finally, we propose an algorithm for solving the Nash equilibrium problem and carry out numerical experiments to conduct comparative static analysis on the market with respect to the transmission parameters.
