Dynamic relaxation of the global magnetisation of high quality BSCCO 2212 single crystals has been studied. We demonstrate for the first time using global measurements that the increase of current at the anomalous "arrow head" feature is related to the penetration of a Bean type profile through the sample at field H~*. We show that at H~* the vortex lattice softens and flux creep is enhanced. The fast creep regime survives over a narrow field range up to a field H_b., which we associate with the irreversibility line of the bulk pinning.
