摘要

A thick-walled cylindrical model has been used for modeling the mechanics of left and right ventricular contraction. This study is written with the intent to stress the importance of the clinical applications of some of the results obtained, and the importance of introducing the active force of the myocardium in the formalism describing the pressure-volume relation (PVR). Application of the areas under the end-systolic pressure-volume (ESPVR) for clinical purposes is also discussed. The way to calculate the myocardial longitudinal axis shortening in a non-invasive way is indicated, an application that is gaining importance in the study heart disease and heart failure.
