Recent developments by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) inrnthe area of high temperature aluminum alloys offer the opportunity to incorporate thesernmaterials in smoke evacuation fans, uniquely changing the capabilities of jet fans andrnoffering a wider scope of application opportunities for central tunnel fans. This paperrnoffers a brief history of the development of the materials, a comparison of the newrnaluminum alloy’s high temperature performance compared to traditional materials andrnthe performance implications for smoke handling fans utilizing the new materials.
