摘要

Duplex stainless steels combine many of the outstanding properties of ferritic and austenitic steels. Due to high levels of chromium, nitrogen and often molybdenum, these steels offer good resistance to both local and uniform corrosion. Low nickel content helps maintain a stable price. Combined with their high strength, they are a cost efficient alternative to lower strength stainless and coated carbon steels for storage tank applications. LDX 2101 (UNS S32101) is a 1.5% nickel, 21% chromium duplex grade with manganese and nitrogen additions. This is a review of the use of the lean duplex LDX 2101 for both new tank construction and tank component repair and replacements. Included are case histories, an update on the inclusion of duplex stainless steels in API 650, comparative cost analysis with other materials of construction, and a discussion of fabrication techniques for duplex stainless steels.
