Despite the fact that a large amount of compu-rntational and experimental work on the rotor wakernhas been published, little of a quantitative nature isrnknown about the origin of the main component of thernrotor wake, the tip-vortex, as a function of the rotorrnspeed, rotor blade geometry, and angle of attack. Thernobjective of this paper is to is to describe the originrnof the tip vortex and calculate important propertiesrnsuch as core radius and circulation as a function of thernabove parameters. It is surprising that experimen-rntal data by several workers has revealed little depen-rndence on the Reynolds number. Of course, this lackrnof dependence on Reynolds number will hold only ifrnthe row remains substantially unseparated, thoughrnit may be noted that drag coeu000ecients of blau000b bodiesrnare remarkably constant over wide range of Reynoldsrnnumber. The rotor blade is assumed to be of largernaspect ratio and to leading order in the blade aspectrnratio, it appears infnite in length. In this case, thernbound circulation has an analytical solution when thernblade is viewed as a lifting-line. Lifting surface resultsrnhave been obtained and compare well with the liftingrnline results for the bound circulation.
