The behavior of buried flexible pipe is influenced to a considerable extent by the properties of the backfill materials. Recently, geosynthetics are commonly used in retaining wall for reinforcement. And flexible pipe is used for drainage in such embankment. However, the behavior of buried flexible pipe in the retaining wall reinforced by geosynthetics is not clear. In this paper, two types pit tests were conducted using a model flexible pipe having a diameter of 150 mm that was equipped with 20 bi-axial load cells in reinforced backfill cover by geosynthetics. In case of first type, as the model pipe subside vertical in the ground, the distribution of the earth pressure acting on the model pipe, and changes of earth pressure in the sand backfill without geosynthetics were measured. Second case is using sand backfill with geosynthetics. As a result, in case of second condition, it was found that the vertical earth pressure acting on the model pipe decreased by 25% of the overburden pressure obtained by the prism formula, and the vertical load distributed to around by arcing action.
