An analysis of the hydrodynamic pivoted tilting-pad thrust bearing with the pad shaped in the form of a surface with circumferential waves is presented. The numerical procedure is based on the solution of the finite difference form of the Reynolds and energy equations. Effects of the tilt parameter, runner speed and wave frequency on the bearing performance characteristics are considered. Numerical results of the study are summarized through graphs for the pressure, film thickens, oil temperature, load carrying capacity and power loss. It has been concluded that imposing surface waviness with certain configuration might be necessary to enhance the tilting pad bearing performance; optimization process is needed for each bearing to decide the best wave configuration. It is also found that the oil film thickness improves with the increase in tilt parameter.
