摘要

Driven by military politics, new technologies can be adopted to provide more sophisticated and effective systems. Further, through the use of Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) systems, it is considered that the required sophistication can be provided at a lower cost and in shorter time scales. However, the more advanced and complex the host system, the greater the problems with COTS adaptation. These problems are mainly associated with the many diverse new system issues introduced by COTS components and can result in the development of systems with poor usability and sub-optimal performance. The implications from a usability perspective are discussed in this paper.
