Triblock copolymers based on poly (ethylene oxide)-poly [(R)-3-hydroxybutyrate] - poly (ethylene oxide) applied as a doxorubicin (DOX) delivery micelle system for cancer therapy. The intracellular uptake of DOX to DOX-resistant cells and penetration of DOX into 3D-multicellular spheroids (MCS) was enhanced when it was delivered via micelle system. We demonstrated that administration of DOX-loaded micelles to SiHa xenograft mice led to abrogation of tumor development.
