Gully region of Loess Plateau is one of the subtype regionsand natural geographical units in Loess Plateau. Since theimplementation of new countryside construction in 2005, thisregion has developed amazingly. Based on the results of fieldinvestigation, this research firstly classified the differentcourtyard types of the newly built vernacular dwellings in thegully region of Loess Plateau. Secondly, it detailed analysis thecharacteristics of these different type courtyards. Thirdly, doingthe light environment and wind environment analysis for eachcourtyard in the different vernacular dwellings. This paper alsolays the foundation for the future ecological design research onthe residential building of vernacular dwellings.
