摘要

Based on the analysis of Chinese ship officer supply and demand status quo as well as the factors leading to the ship officer shortage problem,this paper explores the development trend for Chinese ship officer education,analyzes China's maritime education and training practice,and puts forward strategies for addressing the supply and demand contradiction from the perspective of maritime education.As the globalization process of economy quickens,shipping has become a key industry for the prosperity of major shipping countries.At the same time,the international community attaches greater importance to the role of shipping in economic development.So it has become a common goal for all nations to maintain the sustainable development of shipping that is safe,efficient and environment-fiiendly and seafarers are seen as a key factor to the healthy development of the industry.With the entry into force and implementation of the STCW Convention,the education of maritime professionals displays an international feature,and uniform standards tend to be used in their education;at the same time navigation technology is developing very fast and ship operation is becoming more and intelligentized.This situation demands that seafarers be better educated.And it is believed that a sufficient number of qualified seafarers are the prerequisite to development of the shipping industry.Therefore,it has become an urgent task for major shipping economies including China to address the issue of supplying more high quality seafarers to satisfy the market demand.This paper analyzes the Chinese ship officer supply and demand contradiction and factors leading to the problem,discusses the tendency for seafarer market development and in the end points out strategies for further developing seafarer education.
