摘要

Design of sacrificial cladding is one of the most effective methods for protection of structures against blast load. The present study proposes to use layered metallic foams for the sacrificial cladding to achieve maximum energy absorption and peak pressure filtering. One-dimensional analysis of shock wave transition in the layered foams is performed. Parametric studies with respect to the densification strain, plateau stress of foams, and configuration of the foam layers are carried out. Results show that with appropriate design of the layered foams, not only the energy transferred to the protected structure is reduced but also the transmitted peak pressure can be controlled.
