The researcher is interested in teaching English and often wonders whether a native English speaker is better than a non-native speaker in teaching English as a foreign language. The aim of this paper is to argue that a monolingual English speaker may not be as good as a bilingual English speaker in teaching secondary school students in China. The researcher argues that there is no pedagogical evidence that a monolingual native English speaker is always better than a bilingual English speaker in improving English ability of Chinese secondary students.
