Depending on the topography of offshore islands and reefs and blocking the branch channels in the sea area with strong tidal current and high sediment content to form land area, to construct the large-scale container deepwater port creates a precedent in the port construction history both in China and in the world. One of the key technologies in this project is how to design the layout of Yangshan Deepwater Port. In this paper, considering the trumpet-shaped topographic characteristics, which is formed by the Big Yangshan (in the south) and Small Yanshan (in the north) island chains with the east entrance narrow (about 1,000m in width) and water deep (averagely about 50m) and the west entrance wide (about 7,600m in width) and water depth (averagely about 11m), and complicated hydrologic and sediment conditions in the sea area etc., after comprehensive demonstration, it was recommended to execute the layout option with single channel so as to facilitate maintaining of the water depth of the port district, smooth of the tidal flow, safe navigation of ships and decrease of siltation intensity. Site monitoring indicates that the results about the flow status and siltation intensity of the water area of the port basically are consistent with the conclusions by the previous study.
